Habitat 2019 Kickoff

Welcome to the 2019 Alternative Break Service Trip to Richmond, Kentucky blog page! During the week we will be volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, learning about the area of Appalachia, and doing our part in helping build homes. We are the student leaders for the trip, David Reith and Amanda Weber, and our accompanying faculty are Austin Grist and Sue Majocka.

We met while participating in the ABST Program last year, where we both traveled to Detroit, Michigan. We worked with Earthworks Urban Farm and focused on community gardening while learning more about food access. After this transformational experience, we both were compelled to lead a trip the following year. Coincidentally, we were placed as co-leaders for the Habitat for Humanity Domestic Trip. Both of us are so excited to take part in this amazing opportunity!

We will be posting more regularly as our trip is soon approaching. Only 40 days until we start our drive down to Kentucky! Currently we have 10 participants, not including the student leaders and accompanying faculty, and we are happy to invite others onto this experience as well. Let us just say, they are all wonderful people and each has shown a huge interest in the theme of our trip. We are so excited for the months to come and cannot wait to bring you along with us on this journey.
